Maragogi is one of the most popular destinations on the coast of Alagoas, Brazil, famous for its crystal-clear natural pools. Although it is in Alagoas, many travellers arrive through Recife International Airport, which usually has more direct flights, including international ones. This guide covers the route, the travel time and your options for making the journey stress-free.

How far is Maragogi from Recife Airport?

The journey is about 130 km (80 miles). From the airport, the road heads south on the BR-101 and then along the PE-060 coastal highway, passing through towns on Pernambuco's southern coast before crossing into Alagoas. Under normal conditions, the drive takes around 2h30.

It can take longer during rush hour leaving Recife, on long holiday weekends and on days of heavy rain. So it is worth allowing extra time if you have plans on the same day, such as hotel check-in or a trip to the natural pools.

What are the options for getting from the airport to Maragogi?

1. Private transfer

This is the most convenient option. The driver waits at arrivals, helps with your luggage and takes you straight to your hotel door, with no stops for other passengers. You travel in an air-conditioned vehicle reserved only for your group, without worrying about directions, timing or flight delays.

It is ideal for families with children, groups of friends, honeymooners and anyone arriving tired after connecting flights.

2. Intercity bus

The cheapest option, but also the slowest. Buses do not leave from the airport: you first need to get to Recife's bus station, wait for the scheduled departure and, once in Maragogi, still make your way to your guesthouse. With luggage and children, this can take up most of the day.

3. Rental car

It gives you freedom to explore, but requires care: the route includes single-lane highways, small town crossings and poorly lit stretches. If you do not know the region, driving at night after a long flight is not recommended. You also need to factor in returning the car at the airport on your way home.

4. Taxi or ride-hailing app

These work very well within Recife, but on long trips there is a risk of cancellations, price surges and difficulty finding a driver willing to make the round trip to Maragogi. Not the most predictable way to start your holiday.
